Bill Gates in Abu Dhabi: I’ll never run for office

the Mesh Report Staff October 9, 2012 34

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates – Microsoft founder Bill Gates insists he will never run for political office.

Gates told the Abu Dhabi Media Summit on Tuesday that he can have more impact with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation than he would as a politician.

He said his current role doesn’t require him to “try to get elected,” nor does it “have term limits of eight years,” as do some elected American offices.

Gates said he expects to work full time for the rest of his life in philanthropy, but he would be happy to offer the U.S. president his advice.

In a wide-ranging talk, Gates discussed his foundation’s work fighting polio, and he encouraged the Gulf’s entrepreneurs to develop technology that helps both rich and poor.

Oh, yes, the President needs Bill Gates’ advice. America has no royalty but, inexplicably, it treats rich people as if they were. In a word, bullshit!

    • PJL500

America wants royalty: corporations are the nearest thing voters can get to royalty. Look at Romney’s popularity. He is grist to the corporate control mill in DC and people are happy to have him instated there. Americans feel that capitalism is everyone for himself and if you can rig or cheat the system – good for you. Get used to it.

Is Bill Gates only a rich man ? he founded The gigantic Microsoft and surrounded by hordes of Media experts ; who else can any president go to when he needs advise on that topic

  • doctor108

bill gates and his foundation are pushing genetically mangled organisms. gates got suckered into monsanto’s vision of a world where you create plants and animals that you can dump tons of pesticides on. i think he is good guy and wants to do more for the world but its unfortunate that the science of gmo’s is more in the tinkering stage then a full understanding of genetics.

    • Daedalus

Oh no! Food that is perfectly safe to eat BAN IT NOW! We can’t ban it? WE MUST LABEL IT SO NO ONE WILL EAT IT! We can’t label it either? CONSPIRACY! SCIENCE IS TRYING TO KILL US! Everyone tear off your clothing, leave your heated homes, stop eating your artificially selected and non-local origin foods immediately! Oh no! Internet was invented using SCIENCE! Dun dun dun!

wtf kind of statement was that….if you are going to speak up at least make it legible.

        • Daedalus

          wtf i… made it make sense… lolbbqrflmao…

          Oh god! I cannot breath!

Seriously though, sort out the problems with your own grammar before you criticize other people with better grammar.

Capitalize the first letter of each sentence, use ellipses correctly, and please don’t argue my grammar, argue my positions.

      • Noradrenergic

It’s pretty obvious what Daedalus is saying, and I agree with him. Cut the conspiracy theory garbage and do some real research…No, reading internet blog sites written by Alex Jones does not count as “doing research”.

you clearly haven’t researched GMOs very deeply.

        • Daedalus

How am I supposed to rebut that comment? Call you a meany-pants for calling me a dumby?

    • http://www.facebook.com/gumercindo Eduardo Silva

and what kind of understanding of genetics do you have?

      • http://dubaidebtrecovery.com/ Akif

        How bout you?

        • Noradrenergic

I study molecular genetics, and I agree with Eduardo. How about you?

If anyone could have the system in his House, there wouldn’t be any diseases any more! The Moral, If he would be president every country in the world would be in a fight against the US for that money. No matter what Americans might say to this, I think the world together as 1 is stronger, but what would be Left of the World???

You know there are hundreds of millions of us out here who do not really care about Gate’s political aspirations or lack of them. If he were going to actually run for something then what he thinks might be newsworthy, otherwise it’s just pulp.

  • http://twitter.com/BorisBeric Boris Beric

Yes, we all need effective technology, that helps both rich and poor.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=692920077 Jason Renfrow

Gates has not been my favorite person throughout the history of computers and technology. I have found him to be focused on the greed and comercialism of a faulty product that has caused nothing but problems for end users. Yet if he is actually focused on using his ill-gotten fortune to help the misfortunates in this world I say more power to him. I wish him the best with his projects and hope they come out better than the software he has helped to market.

    • ajm

I guess you rather he stopped making money at $1.00 or $100.00 or $1 million? Please tell us “Dear Leader of the Underachievers” what time in building our businesses should we quit in order to gain your acceptance?

Since he was focused on buliding his company he made a lot of money-his money, not yours or anyone elses. At this stage in his life he is chosing to spend/invest it as he wishes, which is his right alone. Since he choose to earn his money and reinvest in himself he ended up with a lot more. His perogative.

You may not like his products, you didn’t have to buy them. He worked in a competitive field and the market (ie. people/business) chose to support some of his products to different degrees. If MS products were as bad as you say, they would not of had such dominance for so long.

ps. you made a comment below to a non english speaker in a very rude manner. This is very telling of you and your personality. You are insecure and jealous and when you pass on in life, no one will remember you.

I could actually envision the heal of your boot impacting against the side of that persons head after reading that. nice beat down.

Bill Gates did not made money, he made a software and his work catered to masses. and the market rewarded him for his work by putting a price on the shares of Microsoft. and thats the beauty of Capitalism so instead of complaining, do something innovative

      • D C

Early MS products were atrocious. You need a history lesson.

    • GrenadeTrade

I mean… why would he take position in an office where nothing gets done and if at all, moves at a painfully slow pace? He doesn’t need the fame, he has money, he has influence, power and impact in the position that he’s currently in – and getting much more done than our political leaders.

  • deepakchopra

oh no, the US market might “crash” if Bill Gates were to run

  • http://twitter.com/drsam800 Dr. Sam Sam

BRAVO for a very rich man with a heart! Gates has benefitted so many around the world–and in America. These are the ones Jesus said would go to heaven!

Roman Empire Propaganda ploy — Jesus is a mythical figure.
“Give to Caesar” and follow the Shepherd to the abattoir.
Similarly, wealth and fame was bestowed on Bill.

  • Jamal

We need more people like Mr. Gates to make the world a better place for everyone! All the best wishes and success!

He is giving kids polio with those vaccines.

Who wants politics? Good for him. But I think I read some article – Gates encouraging the world’s riches to donate half of their wealth to charity. Which is a good move.

There’s a principle in buisness (principle in buisness)
    That everybody knows is sound
It says the people with the money (people with the money)

    So I’m biggering my company

In September 1999 it was revealed that NSA had arranged with Microsoft to insert special “keys” into Windows software, in all versions from 95-OSR2 onwards. An American computer scientist, Andrew Fernandez of Cryptonym in North Carolina, had disassembled parts of the Windows instruction code and found the smoking gun – Microsoft’s developers had failed to remove the debugging symbols used to test this software before they released it. Inside the code were the labels for two keys. One was called “KEY”. The other was called “NSAKEY”. Fernandez presented his finding at a conference at which some Windows developers were also in attendance. The developers did not deny that the NSA key was built into their software, but they refused to talk about what the key did, or why it had been put there without users’ knowledge. Fernandez says that NSA’s “back door” in the world’s most commonly used operating system makes it “orders of magnitude easier for the US government to access your computer.”

  • Ernst Lindenberg

In February 2000, it was disclosed that the Strategic Affairs Delegation (DAS), the intelligence arm of the French Defense Ministry, had prepared a report in 1999 which also asserted that NSA had helped to install secret programs in Microsoft software. According to the DAS report, “it would seem that the creation of Microsoft was largely supported, not least financially, by the NSA, and that IBM was made to accept the [Microsoft] MS-DOS operating system by the same administration.” The report stated that there had been a “strong suspicion of a lack of security fed by insistent rumors about the existence of spy programs on Microsoft, and by the presence of NSA personnel in Bill Gates’ development teams.” The Pentagon, said the report, was Microsoft’s biggest client in the world.
